Vietnam Activity Report (JICA Basic Survey)Since September of last year, our company has been entrusted with a project by JICA to conduct a preliminary survey in Vietnam.The survey is focused on the Saigon River Tunnel in Ho Chi Minh City.
< October 2022-Preliminary Survey>
We conducted a preliminary survey on motorcycle traffic measurement. Since there are many motorcyclists in Vietnam, ventilation in the tunnel is important, but reports in newspapers and other media have made it clear that there was not sufficient ventilation in the tunnel.
When we actually visited, there were multiple motorcycles running in parallel in one lane.The deterioration of the CO concentration in the tunnel greatly affects the health of users.This was the moment I really wanted to use our company’s ventilation control system to solve this problem.
<December 2022: Implementation of traffic volume measurement>
We imported measuring equipment from Japan and conducted traffic volume measurements. The preparation of necessary documents for customs clearance was challenging,but fortunately, we encountered no major issues, and we achieved our goals.
<May 2023, Survey Report>
We visited the Ho Chi Minh People’s Committee and other related places and reported the results of data analysis of traffic measurement. This includes reducing energy consumptions, reducing CO concentration, and explaining control effects in the event of a fire.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was also signed with the Institute of Science and Technology, Ministry of Transportation and Transportation (ITST) in Vietnam to clarify cooperation arrangements for implementing improvements to the Saigon River Tunnel and establishing ventilation standards in Vietnam.
In addition, we were asked to present the results of our survey as a Japanese company at a Vietnamese science and technology seminar co-hosted by the local road department and other organizations.
From the Vietnamese side, the investigation and proposal of environmental standards in the tunnel, as well as solutions for environmental maintenance. From our company, Matsumoto of the Development Department and Sakaguchi, the Executive Vice President, each presented an energy-saving ventilation control system and a fire ventilation control system.
<Future development>
Thankfully, through a series of activities, we were able to gain an appreciation of our approach to follow-up and improvement (not just equipment deployment).
In the future, we plan to propose specific improvement measures, as well as conduct a field survey and plan the upgrading of other tunnels. These activities will be carried out in response to requests from the local transport ministry.
