How were the other presentations?The presentation by the Austrian National Highway Authority ASFiNAG was impressive. The company aims to be self-sufficient in solar power by 2030, and to that end, it is working to reduce energy consumption by 20%. It will also spend about 1 trillion yen over the next 6 years on sustainability-oriented maintenance of existing roads and equipment.
After conference, what else have you done?The day after the conference, I went to ZaB (Zentrum am Berg). ZaB is an experimental tunnel built on a vast mine site about an hour’s drive from Graz. It is equipped with two mock road and rail tunnels of several hundred meters each, as well as tunnels used by the military. The mock tunnel has equipment to start a fire, and you can do full-scale fire drills. On the day, we were able to observe a simulated fire.
